Con A sangre fría, Truman Capote afirmó haber querido contar la realidad, solo la realidad. Lo cual es cierto, hasta cierto punto. Esto encaja perfectamente con su personalidad, que es a la vez sincera y manipuladora. Así, a menudo transformó la realidad de su vida en la dirección que más le convenía. Está el Truman “jet-set” que tuvo una vida extravagante, pero también el que se destruyó físicamente al escribir esta historia. Capote afirmaba ser querido en Kansas, lo cual era cierto, en parte, porque su personalidad dividía a aquellos a quienes llamaba "los paletos sureños". Y estaba también la relación con Perry Smith, su doble negativo, uno de los dos condenados a muerte. Cada uno de ellos creía reconocerse en el otro. Admiración por Perry, fascinación por Truman. ¿Era este último sincero o simplemente estaba utilizando a Perry para su novela?

With In Cold Blood, Truman Capote claimed to have wanted to tell reality, only reality. Which is true, to a certain extent. This fits perfectly with his personality, which is both sincere and manipulative. Thus, he often transformed the reality of his life in the direction that suited him best. Capote claimed to be loved in Kansas, which was true, in part, because his personality divided those he called "rednecks."
